When you think that the whole world is against you (which I don't think it will happen as you need to make it right again), read this post and this will get you energized once more.

Today, I could not believe the words came out from a former KHR's ex-manager. He said that once I'm into the new company, I have to be prepared to be shouted at, thrown things at, and most importantly - survive, as the politics there are the greatest you will have ever experience in any company. The welders there are kings , they do not want to take instructions from anybody younger unless they think that you are capable of doing what they are doing, and the seniors there would not want to take the blames of the mistakes that you have created. The reality is, you have to know who is the boss , do not offend anyone and try to communicate on a level respected by different kind of people right from the bottom (the welders) to the managers (the GMs). Be humble and do not act as if you are spoilt child. Also, be sure that you are not acrophobia, hydrophobia and claustrophobia, as this will be the daily activities in the yard. My PM whom is also from there said rule number one is Thou shall not fight~ else be sacked.

Your KPI will be assessed on a certain criteria and be sure that you do not achieve lower than 60%, Q2, Q2 is between 60% to 80%, those lower than Q2 will be remunerated at a amount equal to that of what has been rumored in around and Q2 and above will be remunerated up to double that amount. DOUBLE. *I gagged* Sounds shocking? There is more, KFels have overseas opportunities and you will be highly sought after by major industry players.

Good news is, the fossil fuel is here to stay in the next 20 years unless sudden emergence of renewable energy that substitutes the former. According to him, burning fossil fuel to generate energy is still the cheapest compared to nuclear and renewable energy through cost to cost analysis. Also, everyone is willing to venture into E&P as the minute you hit oil, you hit a jackpot as it is surely profitable.

More shockingly, is this, he had already planned out a career path for me right before I joined him. He had planned that I will be going to Germany to be trained as a tunnel consultant and come back as a certified PE. He also said that my current bosses are currently giving good testimonials and I might be chosen for increment after probation.

All in all, it is up to the very basic things that you must learn before you grow into a PM. You must know about the complications of welders, lifting methodology and to the very fundamental things such as how much tonnes of steel that one person can carry. With these knowledge, you will have competitive advantage over the others when you plan your works.

So when you feel depressed over petty things, don't be because you know you are valuable and you are in Kfels to learn. They offer various training programs and this is your opportunity to gain as much knowledge as possible before raising into PM.
